Construction of South Church in Middletown CT was completed in 1870. My parents were members, my dad also did handyman work around the church. While visiting with church members after attending a service a while back, they learned I am a woodworker like my dad, and I went home that Sunday with a broken chair from the community room.

Months later I was contracted to rebuild the church’s street sign. The wood frame was punky and rotten, so much so that that copper cladding was falling off.

The bottom on the sign fell off when we moved it from the truck to the workbench.
Examples of the original frame’s deterioration.

Removing copper from the door frame.
The frame is being rebuilt so that the original copper cladding will be reused.
Test that the newly routed lumber fits the copper.
Measuring for the replacement new galvanized steel using a frame of old and new lumber.
New lighting and the replacement copper.

Rebuilt, relit and reinstalled!
