REWEAVING NEILS MOELLER MODEL 62 ARMCHAIRS

  • by

My client reported he bought six of these chairs in the early 1970s. They are beautiful. The joinery is all still rock solid, and there is only minor wear and tear on the frame. The seats are danish cord and that’s what I was commissioned to do – weave new seats on them.

Lots of broken cordage – this stuff is made of paper and glue.

The underside of the worn out weave.

These nails hold the weave – 92 nails per chair and they all needed to be replaced.

First front to back.

Then side to side. Not hard but tedious, time consuming.

The finished result makes the effort worthwhile.

I hope these chairs are still being enjoyed in another 50 years.

ORIGINAL POST: I’m really excited to get started. I’ve never weaved this type of chair before so stripping the old seat was an education. That, and some online research have me feeling confident. Supplies arrive tomorrow.
