BARNDOOR – GARAGE LAUNDRY

wide angle with door closed

The first barn door I made was for my home in St Petersburg. The laundry is in the garage of most 1950s-era homes down south. I wanted a laundry area that was free of dust and decided a barn door made the most sense.

None of the hardware was made for barndoors. Instead, raw materials were fashioned into hardware; Garage door pulley wheels were used as the rollers. The strapping to hang the door and the bar on which the door travels are bar steel purchased at HD. Door handle is an old broom handle, carved and finished to look rustic. The stand-offs to set the roller bar away from the wall are also made from a broom handle. The guide holding the bottom of the door close to the wall is out of a bin of odd metal hardware I’ve collected along the way.
